# Use Audio Unit plugins on Mac

Put the Audio Unit plugins installed on your Mac on mixer channels and subgroups. If a plugin crashes, the channel sound keeps going.

## Step by step

1. On the channel or subgroup strip, click FX.
2. Open the Plugins tab.
3. Click ＋ Plugin and choose the plugin from the list. You can search by name or by manufacturer.
4. Click Open to see the plugin window and adjust it.

## Where the plugin goes
Plugins run in list order, after NWK's processing (EQ, dynamics and the rest) and before the fader. Each strip takes up to 8 plugins. Plugins add 10 ms of delay to the channel.

## Organize the list
- On / Off: turns the plugin on or bypasses it, without removing it from the list.
- ↑ and ↓: change the order.
- ✕: removes the plugin.
- Scan again: refreshes the list after you install a new plugin.

## If a plugin crashes
The channel sound keeps passing straight through, without the plugin, and the stream goes on. The tab shows “The plugins stopped: reopening…”. The plugins come back by themselves, with the same settings.

## From the Advanced mixer
The Plugins tab is also in the Advanced mixer. The Open in the studio button opens the plugin window on the studio Mac.

## Questions

### Can I use plugins on the Master?

No. Plugins go on channels and subgroups. To process everything together, put the channels in a subgroup and the plugin on the subgroup.
