# Choose the transition type and duration

Choose between Cut, Fade, Merge, Wipe, Slide, Fly, Zoom and Cube and set how many milliseconds the transition lasts.

## Step by step

1. In the middle column, under TRANSITION, click the effect you want. It lights up.
2. In the field next to the FTB button, type the duration in milliseconds (from 100 to 10000) and press Enter.
3. Use Quick Play or Enter to run the transition.


## The effects
The panel shows all transitions at a glance, four per row: Cut, Fade, Merge, Wipe, Slide, Fly, Zoom and Cube. The two stingers are right below.

Choosing Cut leaves the transition with no effect: Enter and Quick Play send Preview straight to Program.



## The duration
The field marked `ms` sets the duration. 1000 ms is one second. The same duration applies to FTB.

With a stinger selected, the field disappears and the stinger video's duration is shown instead: the stinger lasts as long as its video.


## Questions

### What duration should I use?

Between 500 and 1000 ms usually looks natural. Longer durations work for calmer transitions.
