When the studio microphone picks up the sound from a speaker, echo cancellation removes that sound again, with no headphones needed.

## Step by step

1. Use the Native mixer.
2. On the microphone strip, click FX.
3. Open the Echo cancel tab.
4. Turn on Echo cancellation (AEC).
5. Under The speaker is playing, choose what plays on the speaker.
6. Choose the Strength: Soft, Normal or Strong.

## When to use it
Use it when the return feed plays on a speaker in the studio and the microphone hears it. For example: guests on Zoom or Microsoft Teams, a video or music.

With headphones there is no echo: leave it off.

If the echo comes through the cables, not through the air, use “Master minus…” on the audio outputs.

## The speaker is playing
Choose the mix that goes to the speaker: Master, an output (A–E) or Headphones / monitor. If there is an output set to “Master minus…”, it is already selected.

## Check that it is working
On the Now row, NWK shows how much echo was removed and the delay between the speaker and the microphone. It learns by itself within a few seconds of sound on the speaker and finds delays of up to 800 ms, including from Bluetooth speakers.
